More dollars than sense

August 15, 2008

There is an article over at Ars Technica about what Apple needs to fix on the new iPhone 3G.  Apparently, the new super phone is plagued with problems, including a sluggish interface, system freezing, and spotty 3G service (which may or may not be a problem with AT&T).

I’m glad that I held off from my momentary lapse in judgement and didn’t buy one.  Not only is the phone overpriced (when the REQUIRED contract is taken in to account), but it’s a piece of crap in a shiny package.

The entire premise of the Ars Technica article is flawed, however.  Apple doesn’t need to fix anything.  Why bother?  Idiots with too much money will continue to buy any shiny plastic shit with an Apple logo on it regardless of it’s ability to actually, you know, work.  Why should Apple spend a dime on fixing these problems when they have such a stupidly loyal fan base?

I know this post sounds bitter, but I’m just starting to get really fed up with Apple’s lack of commitment to quality and customer service.  You’d be hard pressed to find a recent Apple product that hasn’t had a major widespread problem, which Apple has only fixed when the flaw made the evening news.  Only when Apple is faced with a PR problem do they step up and do the right thing.  They’re motto “It just works.” should be changed to “It just works…well, we’re working on making it work.  Wait for version 3 or 4 and it’ll probably do 40% of what you need it to do.  But, oooooh, it’s shiny!”

I’m moving on to the Touch Pro, whenever it comes through Sprint.

Why does Google need to know my underwear size?

Lifehacker ran a story yesterday about the top desktop search tools as voted on by their readers.  Now, ever since I’ve switched to Vista, I have sorely missed the old simple search tool in XP.  Most people would probably think I’m crazy as the XP tool wasn’t that powerful.  But you know what?  It did exactly what I needed it to do and didn’t waste a lot of time or space.
